SIMON’S KEY ISSUES:

Helping small farms and businesses, encouraging energy efficiency, bringing communities together.

Simon St. Laurent knows town issues. He frequently attends Town Board meetings and has chronicled Dryden’s history both through his own popular blog and in his work with
the Dryden Town Historical Society. An editor and writer of technical books, Simon works and lives on Route 366 near Baker Hill with his wife Angelika and their young daughter.

He participates in and has chaired TCLocal, a research group that studies ways our county can adapt to increasing energy prices. Simon looks forward to becoming even further involved in the town through a position in town government.

"I'm coming up on ten years of living in the Town of Dryden. After a few years of getting settled, it was clearly time to get involved!

"In 2003, I started volunteering for the Dryden Democrats, and began Living in Dryden, a website exploring the town. There was a lot more happening than I'd realized when I started the site, with local residents making all kinds of news.

"I also served as a Trustee of the Dryden Town Historical Society from 2005 to 2008, and gave talks on both Varna history and the history of Robertson's Corners, the area around where Baker Hill Road intersects Route 366.

"Since 2005, I've been involved in TCLocal, a research group studying ways Tompkins County could adapt to increasing energy prices over the next few decades. I chaired the group for a year in 2008-9.

"I make my living editing (and occasionally writing) computer books, working at home for O'Reilly & Associates, a company whose primary offices are in Sebastopol, CA, and Cambridge, MA. I visit our offices once in a while, but I'm very happy I get to stay in Dryden most of the time.

"My wife Angelika, 17-month-old daughter Sungiva, and I live on Route 366 near its western connection with Route 13 with our dog, cat, chickens, ducks, and rabbits."
